Having said that, the ability to recall mixes is huge, and any manufacturer that doesn't understand that, or at least try to do something about it, doesn't understand the needs of its pro customers.The SL 4000 from SSL could be considered the quintessential analog mixing console. There is not enough money in it for them. I'd love to see UAD update the 1176 for Universal Binary, but they won't do it (and I' have had more than one conversation about this with them).

Waves did not do a good job of modeling this, or CLA's 1176 was not working properly.

The genius of the hardware 1176 is letting a huge transient through, and then puling back, letting things like toms and bass have punch- and sustain. Try the CLA with a slow attack and fast release on toms and see. Sometime one needs to change a word or out of tune note for a project and it is more than cumbersome to have to adjust a dialed in mix because of plug in incompatibility.
